BRONX MAN CONVICTED OF RAPING A 14-YEAR-OLD GIRL IN THE
SUMMER OF 2006

Bronx District Attorney Robert T. Johnson announced today that a 27-year-old man has been convicted of raping a 14-year-old girl in July of 2006.

Jamarr Fowler, of 3143 Decatur Avenue, the Bronx, was found guilty of Rape in the 2nd degree after less than two hours of deliberations.

State Supreme Court Justice David Stadtmauer has set sentencing for Thursday, July 31, 2008 in Part T19. Fowler, a predicate offender, with two 2 felony convictions, for Criminal Possession of Controlled Substance and Robbery in the 2nd degree, is facing an indeterminate sentence of 3 ½ to 7 years.

The incident occurred on July 22, 2006 in an alley behind 3091 Webster Avenue. Fowler lured a 14-year-old girl, whom he knew from the neighborhood into the building by asking her to pick up a cell phone from a friends’ house. He then told his young victim he wanted to talk to her, and led her to the back of the building where he raped and sodomized her. The girl immediately went home and told her family what had occurred. The police were called and she was taken to Montefiore Medical Center where she was treated and released. A warrant was issued for Fowler’s arrest. Fowler was taken into custody approximately 3 weeks later when he was discovered by police while executing a search warrant in an apartment in connection with a matter unrelated to the rape.

The case is being prosecuted by Nadia Chanza of the Child Abuse / Sex Crimes Bureau.
