Bronx District Attorney Robert T. Johnson announced today the conviction of a 48-year-old Rikers Island inmate who tried to hire a ‘hit man’ to assassinate New York City Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly and blow up NYPD Headquarters at 1 Police Plaza.
David Brown pled guilty to one count of Criminal Solicitation in the 2nd degree, a Class D felony offense, punishable by a maximum sentence of up to 7 years imprisonment. Under terms of the plea agreement Brown will receive a sentence of 3 to 6 years imprisonment when he appears before Acting State Supreme Court Justice Steven Barrett on Friday, November 7, 2008 in Part M 60.
Brown admitted that between February 21, 2007 and February 23, 2007 he engaged in conversations with an undercover police officer whom he believed to be a ‘hit man’ and agreed to pay as much as $150,000 to kill Commissioner Kelly and blow up 1 Police Plaza. The conversations occurred twice on the telephone and once in person while the defendant was being held at the City Jail on Rikers Island for violating an order of protection stemming from a domestic violence case in Brooklyn.
