About BronxCAMS
The Bronx DA’s Crime Strategies Bureau launched the Bronx Community Assisted Mapping System (BronxCAMS) in 2018, in an effort to reduce crime in our community. Residential and commercial surveillance camera footage has helped prove the commission of a crime or someone’s innocence. This critical evidence is necessary for our Office to Pursue Justice with Integrity.
Through BronxCAMS, community members and business owners voluntarily list their cameras to the database, which already includes NYPD and NYCHA cameras. With this information, the Office maintains a confidential map–that will never be released to the public–of camera locations around the Bronx and information on how to retrieve footage. Our Office does not have access to cameras or camera footage. Instead, when a crime is committed and the footage is useful to law enforcement, members of the Bronx DA’s Office will contact the camera owner or designee to view footage and request a copy.
